Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a foster family / home?
A foster family opens their heart and home to care for and love a homeless dog in need.
How long does fostering last?
Fostering means taking in a dog for a temporary amount of time. It may last a few days or a few months. We work very close with all of our foster parents to promote and get your foster pup adopted to the very best home.
Why do dogs need foster care?
While there are many reasons why dogs need foster care, most of them become homeless due to their owners financial hardships or many of them are amazing dogs living in overcrowded shelters. Our rescue takes them and immediately places them in foster care while we find them their forever home.
How much will fostering cost my family?
Absolutely nothing! When you are a foster parent with 4 Paws Dog Rescue, he or she will come up to date with all necessary vaccinations and medications. We provide your foster dog with the highest quality, all natural food. We also supply bedding, toys and treats.
What if I already have pets at home? Can I still foster?
Yes! We will do “meets” with your existing pets to ensure that everyone is safe and happy during your fostering period.
Do I need to find my foster dog an adopter?
We work with you to find your foster dog the best absolute home. With your help, we maintain and update pics and bios on Petfinder, Facebook, Instagram and other rescue related sites. We organize adoption events and invite you and your foster to attend.
Who can be a foster parent?
Anyone who is 21 years old and over and has experience with animals can be a foster parent! While we prefer that the foster parent also be a homeowner, it is not a mandatory requirement. Renters can also be foster homes, however it must be disclosed in our foster application and may have to be confirmed with the landlord.
What other requirements are there?
The most important thing is that the foster parent be loving, and compassionate. All pets owned by the foster parent must be in good health and up to date on their vaccinations and are currently on any necessary heartworm preventative, altered, friendly and licensed with your township.
I cannot foster at this time, but I would still like to help.
What can I do?
You can always sign up to help and walk dogs at adoption events and/or weekly pack walks. We are excited for you! Please reach out to us via Facebook or send us an email at info@4pawsnj.org
